MA Interactive Media - Joao Wilbert

My objectives:
Map relevant sounds produced by the building on its interior/exterior (pipelines, electrical systems, doors and windows opening/closing) and by human presence inside the Laurie Grove Baths
Learn about acoustics
Learn how to work with contact microphones and capture sound
Learn how to create mySQL databases with a good level of normalization
Complete the research within the deadline

The resources and strategies I will use are:
Carefully listen sounds in different times (day and night)
Observe what sounds could be relevant to recreate the environment
Communicate with Alan/Graham regarding the equipment needed to capture sound in good quality
Find a site plan of the building
Install microphones in relative positions inside and outside the Baths
Create a database with the sounds found
Locate the sound sources in the site plan

The proof of accomplishing this activity will be:
Have a normalized database containing sounds that could recreate the Bath’s environment
Be able to present the data using a mySQL database
Present samples of the sounds found
Present the sound sources on the site plan

Evaluation criteria and means of validation will be:
My collaboration to the group’s research
The possibility to add new ideas to the DATAJAM
The information and knowledge acquired by the objectives
The possibility to apply the same methods to new projects

My target date for completion will be:
Tuesday – November 13th
