The LFS returns with E2PROM to Mongrel’s home at the Jellied Eel Shed in Southend for another informal night exploring the art and film of the digital globe, both actual and virtual, including an exhibition of local digital art in the gallery, electronic music and VJ projections. The programme will contain a showcase of local filmmakers and mixed media talent.
PROGRAMME
VJ MOKITAL
Using a mix of VJ software and electronic hardware Mokital provides a selection of visuals to accompany music performances at the MediaShed delving into the world of Japanese Anime, retro advertising and old movies.
MONGREL
The internationally reputed new media arts collective introduce their latest project MediaShed and explain how the venue will become a base for art forms encompassing the concept of Free-Media.
DJ HYBERNATION
Providing tonight’s gallery music is the Southend based mellow vibe electronica composer and DJ, mixing a set of global electronic beats with his own work in Fruity Loop.
MP3 BEATS AND BEAT-BOXER
Two men called Chris: one uses analogue turntables with Final Scratch to DJ with mp3 tracks composed in Cue Base while the other reproduces the electronic sounds of drum machines by manipulating his own voice.

QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT 2006 PERAMBULATOR run-time 20 MINS
DJ Hybernation creates a new soundtrack live to a re-edited version of the six part 1950s cult sci-fi TV series Quatermass and the Pit using two turntables and a selection of vinyl; re-edited visuals by local filmmaker David Valentine.

DIGITAL ART EXHIBITION
Featuring the work of three local digital artists Julie Curtis, Angelina Mounsey and Gary Jacobs who have taken their very different experiences as commercial artists back into their personal artwork (as featured from page 13). Photography, graphic design and illustration all created or manipulated on computer to achieve a distinctive creative expression for the modern age.
JULIE CURTIS
The commercially successful graphic designer branches out with an exhibition of digitally manipulated art on canvas that is inspired by her family and draws on influences such as Saul Bass, MC Escher and Chuck Close.
ANGELINA MOUNSEY
The music photographer airs some of her more personal work about the Southend shooting digitally and taking a documentary approach to her subject, then manipulating the image in Photoshop to achieve an otherworldly view of the local landscape.
GARY JACOBS
Creative director of Limarted Edition, the local illustrator’s work incorporates elements of DJ culture by re-sampling textures, designs, words and his own drawings in Photoshop, Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand. The printing process forms a major part of the work including new technologies such as MetalFX®.
