MediaShed Workshops and Training

The MediaShed approaches training through an innovative and informal model. Anyone who participates in the MediaShed can propose a training or workshop theme. If enough people want it and some other participant can offer it, we set up the workshops in the space and document the course on-line so others who can not attend can gain access. If no-one in side the MediaShed has the right knowledge we seek outside help.

Why we believe in artists and the arts.

Artists are a creative bunch who spend a lot of time experimenting and innovating with ideas and materials. They introduce people into thinking about media in new ways, sowing the seeds for innovative enterprises and entrepreneurship. New media artists can be experts in Information Technology and usually have a commitment to collaborative working and experience of engaging with communities in informal learning and confidence building.

Southend-on-Sea Linux Users Group (SosLUG) meets regularly at the MediaShed every Thursday evening.

The MediaShed provides a space for artists and technology enthusiasts to come together and support each other. Through their common interest in media and accessible recycled equipment they are in an ideal environment to find new uses for old waste technology. “techies” are an invaluable resource when it comes to building complicated or experimental systems and hardware for media projects. Artists have the ideas and the experience of working with people to find creative applications.
